Renowned international sports figure Hasan Arat has praised Kosovo’s sporting potential and highlighted the strategic importance of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030 for the country. Following his decoration by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, Arat emphasized that hosting the Games represents not only a major sporting event, but also a significant milestone for sports diplomacy and Kosovo’s international affirmation.

Speaking about the symbolic and practical value of the Mediterranean Games, Arat underlined that Kosovo has already proven itself to be a country with extraordinary sporting potential. According to him, organizing such an event will leave a long-term legacy, directly contributing to the development of sport and inspiring younger generations, while further strengthening Kosovo’s role on the international stage.

Arat further reflected on the strong passion of the people of Kosovo for sport, describing it as a key element that connects societies and states. He stressed that sport serves as a universal language of dialogue and solidarity, which has historically played an important role in Kosovo’s recognition and affirmation worldwide. According to him, this energy and enthusiasm among citizens provide a strong foundation for the success of the Mediterranean Games and their positive impact on young people.

Addressing the organizational aspect, Arat emphasized the great responsibility that comes with hosting an event of this magnitude. He noted that the Mediterranean Games are among the largest international sporting events and require careful, professional preparation. According to him, the way these Games are organized will define the legacy left behind for decades, making planning, caution, and high standards essential to their success.

Hasan Arat is a Turkish businessman and sports administrator of Albanian origin. In his sporting career, he was a basketball player, while as an administrator he has served as a member of the European Olympic Committees, former Vice President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, Chair of the Coordination Commission for the Krakow 2023 European Games, head of Istanbul’s bid for the 2020 Olympic Games, former member of various IOC and ANOC commissions, and a member of the Executive Committee of World Athletics, among other roles. Most recently (2023–2024), he served for more than a year as president of the major Turkish football club Beşiktaş.
