Tribute paid to 376 Albanian civilians killed by Serbian forces, Abdixhiku: Freedom requires justice

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, together with his associates, paid tribute on the 27th anniversary of the Meja Massacre.

On this occasion, Abdixhiku recalled that 376 Albanian civilians, including children, were detained and forcibly separated from their families, later killed by Serbian police and military forces.

According to him, the crime did not end with the killings, as the Serbian state also organized the concealment of the bodies, which were transported around 280 kilometers away to Batajnica, where they were buried in mass graves.

“Today, among these families, you understand that time does not close everything. There is pain that remains, calm on the surface, but unchanged in essence,” he said.

Abdixhiku emphasized that this day is not only about remembrance, but also reflection on the past and the responsibility not to forget.

He added that Kosovo’s freedom came at a high cost and requires responsibility, underlining the need for justice for the victims and the preservation of historical memory.
