Simiq fails three times in a row to secure votes for Deputy Speaker of the Assembly

The candidate proposed by the Serbian List for Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Slavko Simiq, failed to obtain the necessary votes to be elected to this position in three rounds of voting.

In all three rounds, Simiq received only ten votes in favor—from the Serbian List and the Gorani MP, Adem Hoxha—while 56 MPs from Vetëvendosje voted against. Meanwhile, 23 MPs from PDK abstained, and LDK MPs did not participate in the vote.

Since Simiq did not secure the required votes in the three rounds, the Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha, called on the Serbian List to propose another candidate for Deputy Speaker.

“Honorable colleagues, as you know, the ruling of the Constitutional Court regarding overcoming the deadlock has been that the same candidate may only be proposed consecutively three times. In the spirit of resolving the deadlock, the Court has stipulated that nominations may only be made three times. This applies both to the Speaker and the Deputy Speakers. There cannot be one standard for the Speaker and another for the Deputy Speakers,” he said.
