Today, on October 17, starting at 5:00 PM, Skanderbeg Square in Tirana will echo with calls for justice for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), who are being held in detention in The Hague.
The protest, under the motto “Freedom Has a Name – Justice for the Liberators”, in Tirana is expected to be one of the largest ever held in support of the KLA leaders, with participation from citizens, civil society, and well-known political figures from Albanian territories, as reported by KosovaPress.
Citizens from all Albanian-inhabited areas are mobilizing to take part in this gathering, which they see as both a moral and national obligation toward those who led the war for freedom and are now unjustly detained in The Hague.
Various Albanian politicians from Kosovo and Albania have expressed their support for the protest, while around 60 buses with citizens are expected to depart from Kosovo to join the demonstration in Tirana.
Authorities in Albania announced yesterday that the “Nation’s Road” (Rruga e Kombit) will be toll-free today, October 17, for all citizens as a sign of solidarity with the protest.
It is worth noting that protests in support of the former KLA leaders have also been organized in Prishtina and The Hague.
