Message to the Hague: 5,000 KLA emblems attached on NEWBORN monument

The iconic monument of Kosovo’s independence, NEWBORN, has once again become the center of public reactions on the 18th anniversary of the declaration of independence.

After being symbolically “imprisoned” with iron bars and the inscription “Kosovo Imprisoned!”, this morning 5,000 KLA magnetic emblems were added to it.

Activists from the platform “Freedom Has a Name,” who surrounded the monument last night with metal bars, turning it into a prison image, have today filled it with KLA emblems.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed respect for this symbolism.

“After the symbolic ‘imprisonment’ of the well-known commemorative NEWBORN with an iron grille and the inscription ‘Kosovo Imprisoned,’ today activists have placed 5,000 KLA emblems,” Rama wrote on Facebook.

Eliza Hoxha from the organization “Freedom Has a Name” said last night that this public reaction is against the injustice of the Specialist Chambers, which they consider a tendency to rewrite history and undermine the struggle for freedom and the foundations of our state.

As she stated, NEWBORN—the symbol of February 17 and the birth of our Republic—has been included in their activities to reflect the sense of injustice that citizens and Kosovo are experiencing in the face of the ongoing trials at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Kosovo today celebrates the 18th anniversary of independence, while former KLA leaders Hashim Thaci, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli, and Rexhep Selimi remain in pre-trial detention in The Hague.
