With 93 votes in favor, none against, and no abstentions, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo has approved the draft law on ratifying the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, which enables the concretization of cooperation between the two countries for the organization of the Mediterranean Games.
This agreement also received support from the opposition parliamentary groups, including the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Blerim Gashani, said that this agreement does not undermine Kosovo’s role as host, but rather strengthens it by demonstrating flexibility and the capacity to organize inclusive games.
“The organization of the ‘Prishtina 2030’ Mediterranean Games represents a strategic achievement for the Republic of Kosovo, placing it on the map of major international sporting events and demonstrating institutional capacity to take on such responsibilities. In this context, the agreement with the Republic of Albania represents a functional and reasonable solution for organizing sailing disciplines, reflecting geographical realities and the need for regional cooperation. Given that Kosovo has no access to the sea, the inclusion of the city of Durrës as the venue for sailing is a logical choice and in line with international standards for organizing multi-sport events. This agreement does not undermine Kosovo’s role as host, but rather strengthens it by showing flexibility and capacity to organize inclusive games in cooperation with strategic partners,” Gashani emphasized.
LVV MP Bylbyl Sokoli stressed that with this agreement, Kosovo acts as the host country of the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030”.
“With this agreement, Kosovo acts as the host country of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030’, while Albania becomes a partner in organizing the sailing discipline in the municipality of Durrës,” Sokoli said.
Arbnore Salihu, MP from the PDK, said that this agreement is extremely important for the organization of these games.
