The Kosovo Judicial Council has authorized the presidents of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Administrative Court, Commercial Court, and the Basic Court in Pristina to take measures due to the high temperatures prevailing in the Palace of Justice.
It is now up to the court presidents in the Palace of Justice to assess conditions and may reduce or suspend work based on their evaluation.
During today’s meeting, Council chair Rrustem Thaci said that, regardless of the presidents’ assessment, they can decide on reducing work or suspending it until the situation improves.
“We authorize the presidents of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Commercial Court, Basic Court and Administrative Court to assess working conditions, the situation of high temperatures and regardless of the assessment to decide on reducing work or suspending it until the situation improves,” Thaci said.
He also said that the situation in the Palace of Justice is alarming and intolerable.
“I have been part of the work in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court since 2017 and the situation is alarming, it is unacceptable, intolerable. We are no longer talking about working conditions but about human lives, it is our obligation to ensure that people do not suffer health consequences. At 11 a.m. they are thinking whether they can survive until 4 p.m.,” he said.
