12 judges apply for positions as members of the Kosovo Judicial Council

Twelve judges from Basic Courts in Kosovo have submitted their candidacies to become members of the Judicial Council of Kosovo (Kosovo Judicial Council). Meanwhile, June 23 has been set as the date for the electoral assembly, starting at 13:00, reports KosovaPress.

This was announced at today’s meeting of the Judicial Council, where dates were also set for holding electoral processes for the selection of new members of the institution from the country’s basic courts.

The candidates are Agron Maxhuni, judge at the Basic Court in Mitrovica, Atdhe Berisha, judge in Prizren, Besnik Shala, judge at the Basic Court in Peja, Blerim Halimi, judge at the Basic Court in Prishtina, Diora Bajrami, judge in Prizren, Donikë Dobruna, judge at the Basic Court in Prishtina, Gentiana Shabani, judge at the Basic Court in Gjilan, Ilir Bytyqi and Mimoza Maloku-Shabani, candidates from the Basic Court in Ferizaj, Musë Povataj from the Basic Court in Peja, Valentina Sopjani, judge at the Basic Court in Prishtina, as well as Violeta Namani Hajra, also from the Basic Court in Prishtina.

A member of the Judicial Council of Kosovo, Ahmet Imani, said that all these candidates have met the criteria in accordance with the regulation.

“The competition was announced on May 15 and lasted until June 2; we have received 12 applications from the basic courts. The Basic Court in Gjakova did not have the right to apply because they already have their representative here, Judge Mirjetë. It should also be noted that we did not receive applications from the Administrative Court and from the first-instance chambers of the Commercial Court… After reviewing the documentation, based on the regulation, it was determined that all candidates meet the criteria according to the regulation,” he said.

June 16 has been planned as the date for elections to be organized at the Basic Court in Prishtina. Meanwhile, on June 17 in Gjilan and Ferizaj, on June 18 the elections will be organized at the Basic Courts in Mitrovica and Peja, while on June 19 the electoral process is planned to be held in Prizren.
