The Government of Kosovo has approved the draft regulation amending and supplementing Regulation No. 09/2019 on the Integration of Foreigners.
According to Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla, the amendment aims to enable the extension of basic accommodation for persons with refugee status, subsidiary protection status, and persons under temporary protection beyond the two-year period.
He said the change was made due to difficulties in integrating these individuals even after the current two-year period expires.
“This amendment to the regulation aims to enable the extension of the basic accommodation period for persons with refugee status, persons with subsidiary protection status, as well as persons under temporary protection beyond the two-year period. According to the current regulation, these categories are provided with basic accommodation for up to two years. However, practice has shown that a considerable number of these persons, even after the end of this period, have not managed to fully integrate, which has created the need to amend this provision and extend the accommodation period,” he said.
