Hoxhaj: I will always say yes to a candidate from the Jashari family

Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Enver Hoxhaj has stated that he would personally always say yes to a presidential candidate coming from the Jashari family. However, he stressed that the final decision belongs to the PDK Presidency.

According to Hoxhaj, the dialogue on the issue of the president between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and opposition party leaders should be more substantive.

“A candidacy that comes from the Jashari family in the Assembly of Kosovo, I would personally always say yes to, but the decision belongs to the PDK Presidency… and the dialogue should be more substantive between the prime minister and the leaders of opposition political parties on how to approach this issue,” Hoxhaj emphasized.

He added that the Democratic Party of Kosovo emerged from the war and the path of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), not from warm offices, printers, or draft statutes.

“You saw his position in support of such a candidacy, but we still do not have a position from the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Kosovo. We need to have a debate within the PDK Presidency. Naturally, this state is built on the foundations of their blood and the Assembly is built on their sacrifice; free Kosovo and statehood are built on their sacrifice; independent Kosovo is built on their sacrifice and we always bow before such a family. However, the political decision belongs to a political subject that emerged from the war, because PDK did not come out of warm offices or printers drafting statutes, but from where the Kosovo Liberation Army walked, and we see it as decisive that, in line with the dignity we represent, we act accordingly with our vote in the Assembly of Kosovo,” the PDK MP declared.

By March 4, 2026, Kosovo’s president must be elected in the Assembly of Kosovo; otherwise, the country will head to early elections.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Kosovo has held meetings with the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, and the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, where the issue of the president was discussed
