Haxhiu avoids comments on the presidency: “Today the focus is on survivors”

Acting President and Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, has declined to comment on the issue of the election of the President.

After paying tribute at the “Heroinat” memorial, she was asked whether meetings with other parties would take place this week.

“Out of respect for survivors of sexual violence, today I would focus only on this issue. For other topics, there will be other occasions,” Haxhiu said.

Around two weeks remain until the deadline set for electing the president. Otherwise, the country could head to elections, which must be held within 45 days.

The Constitutional Court, on March 25, annulled Osmani’s decree, giving a 34-day deadline to elect the president. If this is not achieved, the Assembly is dissolved and the country goes to elections that must be held within 45 days.
