Haradinaj says Kosovo ruling party not rushing presidency decision before April 5

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said that the Vetëvendosje Movement is not in a hurry to resolve the issue of the presidency before April 5.

Ahead of the plenary session, Haradinaj stated that VV is waiting for the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, to become acting president.

“VV seems to have a timeline plan. For them, it is important first that the Speaker of the Assembly also becomes acting president, so they are not in a hurry before April 5. We will see afterwards how they manage it. But we depend on their initiative. It is impossible for the opposition to take the initiative on such an issue. You know we were given 34 days, 10 of them have already passed. It is clearly linked to the date when the current president’s mandate ends, and that Albulena Haxhiu becomes acting president. VV is waiting,” he said.

The AAK leader stated that since there have been no developments toward resolving the presidency issue, the party has not yet defined how it will use its six available votes.

“AAK has six votes, but they are not defined on how to use them. We have not seen any development of any kind, and it is clear that it is linked to timing. They are waiting for April 5 for President Osmani to leave, for Haxhiu to become acting president, and then we will see what they do,” he said.

Today, the Kosovo Assembly is holding a plenary session with 16 agenda items, mostly international agreements.
