Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP, Perparim Gruda, has stated that the party will not support Glauk Konjufca’s candidacy for President of Kosovo. He said that PDK’s position is clear and that they will not participate in any sessions related to this matter.
“We have decided that we do not support Glauk Konjufca’s candidacy, nor any other party candidate. Our position is clear, and we will not take part in sessions. But what seems to be happening is that sessions may not even be held, as I understand it. This is a reversal of the constitutional order, because today the Assembly should meet to elect—or not elect—a president. To neither elect nor follow the procedure is a violation of the Constitution and is being done deliberately to overturn the constitutional order,” Gruda said.
When asked if they have a candidate for president, he said that currently they do not have a proposed name, emphasizing that they do not have the votes to elect one.
He added that the actions of the current government are mocking Kosovo.
“No, because the truth is we don’t have the votes. This is a mockery of all of Kosovo, because the outcome is known. The truth is that we have 22 MPs, but it is also a big truth that the people of Kosovo voted 51 percent for VV, not 100 percent. With 51 percent they were able to form the government, form the Assembly, approve the budget, and other things, but not elect a president. Therefore, it must be brought in line with the election results. This election result has imposed on all of us to sit down and find a candidate for president. All parties around the world, when they win 51 percent, count it as if they have won 100 percent. This is a complete mockery of Kosovo, the Constitution, and the interests of Kosovo’s citizens,” Gruda added.
