Draft law on the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030 approved

The Government of Kosovo, at its latest meeting, has approved the Law on the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030.

The approval of the draft law on the organization of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030 marks an important step for Kosovo in terms of sports development and international recognition. The country’s institutions have described this initiative as a project of special public and national importance, expected to impact the economy, infrastructure, and the state’s international image.

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, highlighted the importance of this draft law, emphasizing its foundation and the standards it aims to ensure:

“This draft law, based on the agreement reached for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in the Republic of Kosovo Prishtina 2030, is a project of high public and national interest. It guarantees that the organization of this major event will be carried out with full institutional responsibility, with high standards of transparency, integrity, and efficient management of public funds. Through this strategic investment, we not only strengthen sports infrastructure and economic development, but we also place Kosovo on the international map as a country that organizes major events with dignity and professionalism. This is an investment in our youth, in our sport, and in the international image of the state. It is a proof of belief in our potential and of the vision for a Kosovo that competes and is represented with dignity on the international stage,” Kurti said.

On the other hand, Minister of Youth and Sports Blerim Gashani provided details on the financial and organizational aspects of the project, clarifying the funding sources and structure:

“Through this law, the government will approve the use of public funds for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in the amount of at least 253 million euros. This draft law also regulates the competencies of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, the Municipality of Pristina, as well as other municipalities that will fulfill their obligations regarding the organization of the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games. In accordance with the financial support guaranteed by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo in the candidacy document, the main source of funding for the organization of the Mediterranean Games will be the state budget of the Republic of Kosovo. We also consider that this draft law will enable adequate mechanisms for the organization of sporting events, foreseeing institutional cooperation and ensuring that all necessary measures will be taken for their successful implementation,” Gashani said.

The approved draft law clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of state institutions, including the Olympic Committee of Kosovo and the respective municipalities, creating a full legal framework for organizing this major event. After approval in the Assembly, preparations are expected to begin for the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030, which aim to place Kosovo among important organizers of international sporting events.
