The defense team of Rexhep Selimi has concluded its closing statement in this major trial at The Hague. Selimi’s lawyer, Geoffrey Roberts, stated that Selimi is innocent and should be allowed to return home to Kosovo.
“Selimi is completely not guilty, meaning innocent of all charges brought against him by the SPO. As a result, Selimi should be declared not guilty and allowed to return to his home with his family in Kosovo. There is no basis for any of the arguments or charges the SPO has brought against Selimi,” he said.
According to Roberts, the evidence presented by the SPO is contradictory and unreliable.
“Selimi was not a commander, Selimi did not exercise any superior responsibility in any way or form, including the alleged authority that he was a member of these structures, despite being a known member of the KLA from the start… The evidence against Selimi for all charges brought by the SPO is contradictory, lacks credibility, and is unsubstantiated. In particular, the claim that Selimi participated in any alleged crime is completely rejected. A careful analysis of the evidence presented by the prosecution would confirm this,” he added.
After the conclusion of Rexhep Selimi’s defense closing statement, the defense team of Jakup Krasniqi will begin its closing statement.
