Kosovo Energy Corporation worker dies after suffering severe injuries in workplace accident

A 58-year-old worker of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) died on Thursday after succumbing to injuries he sustained in a workplace accident eight days earlier.

The news was confirmed to KosovaPress by the Deputy Chairman of the New KEK Trade Union, Nexhat Llumnica, who said the worker suffered severe head injuries after being struck by a heavy object while on duty.

“Milazim was injured at his workplace a week ago. After the accident, he was hospitalized at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), but unfortunately he could not survive his injuries. He was carrying out his regular duties and working under normal conditions, just as he had on previous occasions. During the work process, a bolt suddenly came loose and, unfortunately, a heavy object struck him on the head, causing the severe injuries that ultimately proved fatal,” Llumnica said.

KEK also announced the death of Milazim Binaku in a Facebook post, expressing condolences to his family.

“While carrying out his work duties on July 8, 2026, at the Mining Equipment Factory in Palaj, the deceased sustained severe bodily injuries. Despite receiving medical treatment at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” the statement said.

Binaku had been employed by KEK for more than 36 years.

“He will be remembered with respect for his dedication, responsibility, professionalism and exemplary conduct at work, as well as for the strong collegial relationships he built over the years. The funeral will take place today, July 16, 2026, following the afternoon (Asr) prayer, at the cemetery in the village of Lum i Madh, Municipality of Vushtrri,” the KEK statement concluded.

According to KEK, the late Milazim (Baki) Binaku worked as a mechanical fitter at the Kosovamont Mining Equipment Factory within the Coal Production Division (CPD).
