Albania stands ready to make its contribution to strengthening international peace and security, while Kosovo is increasingly contributing to dialogue and coexistence in the Western Balkans, said Albanian President Bajram Begaj at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly Council.
Speaking about the future of Kosovo and the rights of Albanians in the region, Begaj said on Wednesday that Kosovo’s seat at the Assembly remains unjustly empty, KosovaPress reports.
He called for the recognition of Kosovo’s independence and support for its membership in the UN and other international organizations.
“Seventeen years after declaring independence, Kosovo has proven through deeds that it is a responsible member of the international community, committed to peace, stability, and democratic values. With strong institutions and a vital population, its contribution to regional and broader cooperation is undeniable. However, Kosovo’s seat in this Assembly remains unjustly empty. The recognition of Kosovo’s independence, support for its membership in the United Nations and in other international organizations, is an act of justice toward the people of Kosovo, a step that further strengthens peace and security in the Western Balkans, and a contribution to the stability of Europe,” said Begaj.
The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, also called on Serbia to respect the rights and freedoms of Albanians in the Presheva Valley.
“Albania demands that the rights and freedoms of Albanians in the Presheva Valley be respected, that Albanians there are not discriminated against but integrated, that the Albanian language be used, and that their culture, values, identity, and traditions be protected and promoted,” added Begaj.
In his speech, Begaj also emphasized that now is the moment when commitment must be renewed to ensure that the UN continues to serve as the foundation of peace, justice, and solidarity for future generations.
“Albania stands ready to make its contribution to strengthening international peace and security. We support a world order where conflicts are resolved sustainably, where societies are strengthened through solidarity, and where peace is built and consolidated on the strong foundations of trust, cooperation, and progress. Albania remains firmly committed to supporting the UN Charter and will continue to contribute to peacekeeping, humanitarian efforts, and building a world where disputes are resolved through dialogue.”iplomacisë”, ka theksuar Begaj.
