The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, together with party officials, paid tribute at the grave of former President Ibrahim Rugova on the 20th anniversary of his death.
Abdixhiku said that Rugova remains the greatest Albanian of all time, KosovaPress reports.
“On the 20th anniversary of the passing of Kosovo’s founding father, we honor Rugova, the man who not only realized a historic dream of the people of Kosovo for freedom, democracy, and independence, but also created a grand project—the greatest for the Albanians of Kosovo. On this 20th anniversary, we not only honor Rugova but remember him, and under his memories and vision, we continue working to give our country the future it deserves: free, with a strong state, within the Euro-Atlantic family. He remains the greatest Albanian of all time, and as such, he obliges us to act with dignity, maturity, and great dedication to our homeland,” Abdixhiku said.
Joining Abdixhiku were also members of the Rugova family.
Ukë Rugova, the son of President Rugova, thanked Abdixhiku for, as he said, the good work he is doing in preserving the legacy of the former president and LDK leader.
“Thank you for the good work you are doing on the legacy of President Rugova within the LDK, for the benefit of Kosovo, and for continuing the lasting friendship with the U.S. and the EU,” Rugova said.
