Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized that the Oncology Clinic is an exemplary facility not only in Kosovo but also in the region. According to him, during his government’s mandate, the clinic has undergone a profound transformation, improving patient care as well as conditions for doctors, specialists, and nurses.

Following the inauguration of the third accelerator, valued at €1.6 million, Kurti stated that it allows tumors to be targeted with maximum precision without damaging surrounding tissues. He also noted that the Oncology Clinic now includes a bunker with supporting facilities, totaling €2.7 million in value.

In addition, Kurti highlighted that under his leadership, the budget for essential medications for patients with malignant diseases has increased from €8 million in 2019 to €19 million this year.

“In a clinic that has undergone a profound transformation during this mandate, significantly improving patient care as well as conditions for specialist doctors, nurses, and staff in general, the Oncology Clinic is an exemplary institution in Kosovo and the Balkan region. It should be noted that the number of beds has increased from 45 to 110. The reason we are here today is the investment in this bunker with accompanying facilities, totaling €2.7 million, completed in a record time of just five months. Other, much more developed countries in Europe have taken up to 12 months to achieve this, whereas it was completed in Kosovo in only five months. The accelerator, valued at €1.6 million, is equipped with an advanced system allowing maximum precision for radiation treatment,” Kurti said.

Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Health Arben Vitia stated that there will no longer be waiting lists at the Oncology Clinic, and added that new investments will also be made in other clinics at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK).

“In a short period, we have installed the third accelerator in this clinic—a modern accelerator that will serve all citizens for their X-ray treatments. There will no longer be any waiting lists. I cannot imagine a better gift for the ministry and staff, especially for patients who had to wait previously, than this accelerator. Investments in the clinic will continue, as will investments in other clinics, so that citizens can access all services without needing to seek them outside public institutions. The Oncology Clinic has become an example in this regard, and most patients no longer consider going abroad for these treatments. In large part, we are also a model for some other countries regarding these treatments,” Vitia emphasized.

The inauguration was also attended by the director of the Oncology Clinic, Ilir Kurtishi, who noted that major investments have been made in the clinic over the past five years.

“Over the past five years, major investments have been made in the Oncology Clinic, which can be seen and felt every day. This has placed the clinic in a very strong position in terms of treating patients with malignant diseases. Not only that, but other services we have implemented in the clinic, including digitalization efforts, are gradually improving the facility even further. The third device installed today truly marks a new chapter in cancer treatment using advanced radiation techniques for patients who require these therapies,” he
