The MP and leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that no process or force can change the glory of the KLA’s pure war.

Speaking at the solemn session of the Kosovo Assembly, Abdixhiku, although he did not mention by name the former KLA leaders on trial in The Hague, said that the KLA was a response to oppression, systematic violence, and crimes against humanity by Slobodan Milošević’s regime.

“Alongside peaceful resistance, the moment came when the state violence of Serbia and the total denial of the rights of a country seeking freedom brought our people to the need for armed defense. The Jashari family and Prekaz represent a historic turning point on this path… The KLA was the response of an oppressed people to systematic violence and crimes against humanity. The KLA became an unavoidable factor in the historical and political reality… There is nothing, no process or force, that can change the glory of this pure and historic war of the people of Kosovo. The KLA is the people of Kosovo itself,” said Abdixhiku.

The LDK leader also mentioned the peaceful resistance of President Ibrahim Rugova for Kosovo’s freedom and independence.

“Our independence is the culmination of a long, centuries-long process for survival, identity, and above all dignity. It is the result of a collective effort spanning eras, individual sacrifices, social resilience, and above all, moral resistance. On this day, we do not only remember the act of February 17, 2008, but the entire path that brought us there. We remember the years of denial, resistance, patience, and sacrifice. We remember a people who chose not to disappear and not to surrender, even when everything seemed impossible. At the foundation of this path stands the political philosophy of the founding father of our Republic, historic President Ibrahim Rugova, and the entire peaceful movement of the 1990s,” he said.
