On the 26th anniversary of the liberation of Prishtina, Mayor Përparim Rama paid tribute at the Martyrs' Cemetery in the “Velania” neighborhood. He was accompanied by the representative of Albanians in America, Ekrem Bardha, and former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, honored all the martyrs and extended his congratulations on the Liberation Day of Prishtina.

Today we have the great honor to be together with Mr. Ekrem Bardha, an Albanian-American, a true living hero of our nation, a man who has given much for the independence and freedom of our country and has honored us today with his presence here. We also paid respects at the grave of President Ibrahim Rugova, to our heroes, and to the martyrs, together with Commander Sopi and members of the KLA. Congratulations on Liberation Day,” he said.

The representative of Albanians in America, Ekrem Bardha, said that the liberation of the country had once been a great dream.

“I am very touched. It was a dream for me, for many years, wondering if the day would come when Kosovo would be free and an independent state. I am here also with your presence, Mr. Rama, I thank you for your company and wish you success in your work. But I am very emotional because during my life I have dedicated myself to independence, and these men here fought heroically. This day came, a dream for centuries, a dream that was realized. At my age, I never thought I would be here with you to honor these martyrs who gave their lives for freedom and independence,” he expressed.
