The Energy Corporation of Kosovo has confirmed the request it sent for raising the electricity sales price, giving arguments as to why this should happen, but it states that they have not received any response regarding this request.

Skënder Bucolli from KEK's public relations office, told KosovaPress that he sent the request for price review, but that there is no information that the price increase was approved according to their request.

"The last bilateral agreement with NR 6005 between KEK and KESCO/KEDS was concluded in 2023 for the time period April 01, 2023 to March 31, 2024, according to this agreement the current price with which KEK supplies KESCO for the universal service is €29.5, whereas the price for covering distribution losses, i.e. for KEDS, is €36.00. In this regard, KEK has sent the price revision request to KESCO/KEDS, KEK's proposal for the new prices was €31.50 for KESCO and €39.10 for KEDS. However, KEK has no information that the price increase has been approved according to our request, moreover, during the tariff review by ERO, the basis for calculating revenues for KESCO/KEDS was obtained the current price at which they are supplied", he said in an answer for KosovaPress.

Bucolli said that the electricity prices from KEK have not changed since 2019 and that according to him the reasons were first the pandemic and then the energy crisis.

"Even though KEK's electricity prices have not changed, KOSTT's tariffs or prices for Market Operation and System Operation have continuously increased and this represents a direct cost for KEK. Based on the fact that KEK's direct costs have continuously increased, but also other costs have increased significantly compared to previous years, and this is evidenced by the fact that the country is faced with an inflation of about 5.4% during the year 2023. Moreover , the primary purpose for the review of electricity prices is to cover all costs and on the other hand to provide sufficient funds to make the necessary capital investments which will affect the stability of generating units, then not reflecting the proposal of KEK can cause delays in the realization of capital investments, but also the possibility of operating at a loss", emphasized Bucolli.

Otherwise, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has confirmed for KosovaPress that there will be no increase in the price of electricity. In a written response, they say that in the assessment of wholesale costs for 2024, ERO has taken into account current prices, as they say "they have not received any other evidence from the parties that are subject to the adjustment for the review of the purchase price of energy from KEK, therefore there will be no price change".
