Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that Greece is behaving in an un-European manner in terms of its position to block the beginning of the negotiations for the membership of Albania in the European Union by making it conditional on the Beleri case.

In a press conference, Rama said that the issue of Fredi Beleri is a problem between Albania and Greece and there is no reason to transfer it to the Brussels table.

"The issue of the difficulty that exports create bilateral disputes on the EU table. There is a sensitization of countries with experience, regarding the fact that bilateral issues exported by a member country to the EU table create unreasonable obstacles. Because bilateral issues must be resolved between two countries and it is incomprehensible and unreasonable in an integration process where a country enters negotiations and enters a final stage of European state-making benefiting daily from the transfer of knowledge from the EU to be hindered or it is delayed because there is a bilateral issue," said Rama.

According to Rama, Athens is creating an obstacle that is not only not European but highlights a Balkan mentality. While underlining that Albania does not see EU membership as related to the level of relations with Greece.

"Perhaps it would be understandable that when it was only a vote to join then it could say; no i don't agree! But this obstacle is not only unreasonable and not European in spirit. In relation to the current difference between us and Greece, I have underlined that this is an issue between us that we must deal with between us. As far as we are concerned, we as Albania do not see it related to the negotiation process or the content of our relations with Greece. We want to be a European country in the Balkans and not a Balkan state in the EU", said Rama. / RTSH
