Today marks 25 years since the establishment of Brigade 137 "Gjakova". The creation of this military formation constitutes one of the most important chapters of the war in Gjakova and Kosovo.

The establishment of this brigade was made by order of the commander of the Dukagjin Operative Zone, Ramush Haradinaj.

This brigade was established after the demands of the bloodthirsty KLA soldiers for intervention in their city, in order to stop the massacres and crimes of the Serbian army against civilians in this municipality.

On March 28, 1999 from the village of Dashinoc, Commander of the ZOD, Ramush Haradinaj issued the order no. L8/862/99 for the creation of a Brigade-level unit, named Brigade 137 "Gjakova" of the KLA, together with the name of the command staff.

One day after its establishment, that is, on March 29, 1999, this brigade with many armed members, each of them equipped with a weapon and additional weaponry, entered the city of Gjakova. This brigade was divided into 4 groups, which were placed in 4 positions of the city, as the best possible strategic points for the development of the military activity of this brigade.

The three groups and the Brigade Headquarters were located in the neighborhoods of Çabrati and one group is located in Orize. Within the framework of the assigned tasks, the fighters of this brigade undertook numerous actions for the protection of the civilian population of Gjakova.

The "Epic of Çabrati" stands out, when 7 martyrs of this brigade died heroically in the frontal war with the enemy, at a close distance, on the 8th, 9th and 17th of May.
