For years, the construction of the City Stadium in Gjilan continues to be neglected, thus becoming a major obstacle in the development of football in this city, even more so when you know the fact that from this city come two of the biggest teams of the Kosovo Super League, Drita and Gjilani.

A glimmer of hope for sports lovers in this municipality came at the end of last year when the Ministry of Sports allocated a budget of 15 million euros, but despite this, the situation has remained unchanged on the ground.

In fact, in recent days it was reported that the Procurement Office in the Municipality of Gjilan has suspended all procedures regarding this project, but such a thing has been denied by the Director of Sports in the Municipality of Gjilan, Kushtrim Zeqiri.

While speaking to KosovaPress, Zeqiri reveals that three companies have applied for the construction of the stadium, one of them will be selected and that the works are expected to start within the next two months.

Until the construction of the stadium starts, coach and analyst Genc Sermaxhaj said that not having a stadium is causing great damage to football in Gjilan. He adds that the hope for the start of the works remains very small, but that the fans are the ones who need this stadium the most.

Otherwise, in September of last year, the Ministry of Sports and the Municipality of Gjilan signed a memorandum of cooperation for the construction of this stadium, which is expected to cost around 15 million euros.
