Von Cramon urges the Government of Kosovo to prioritize environmental protection

Kosovo has a big environmental problem, with polluted air and soil, therefore environmental protection should be a priority for Kosovo, said on Tuesday in Pristina, the rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon. Von Cramon stressed that the time has come for an energy strategy that will pave the way for decarbonization and more renewable energy. “It is always with great pleasure that I come here to call to Prishtina for the opening of the fifth edition of Kosovo sustainable development week. The air pollution in Prishtina is particularly bad in the winter month, stemming mainly from the household coal and wood, heating transport and energy production at the KEK power plants in Kosovo A and B, some of the oldest coal power stations in Europe. The second issue, and you're all very much aware of that, the waste is everywhere. Waste Management continues to be unsustainable and there are large number of illegal dump sites across Kosovo. Landfills built after the war, many with EU money, are nearly full. Some have suffered gratefully from mismanagement, and pose a threat to ground water as well as air pollution”...
