On April 14, 1999, Vasfije Krasniqi was raped by Serbian forces. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani said that exactly April 14, will be marked as the day of the survivors of Sexual Violence, saying that Vasfije Krasniqi should not be allowed to carry the entire burden alone.

Osmani while talking about the meeting she had with Feride Rushiti from the Kosovo Rehabilitation Center for Torture Victims (KRCT), said that the courage of Vasfije Kransiqi, a survivor of sexual violence, is an example and courage that will serve as a guide to seek justice. She added that Krasniqi is not alone and that she is the voice of more than 20,000 survivors of sexual violence in the recent war in Kosovo.
