300 doctors have left their workplace without any other replacement, because most of the graduated doctors and specialists have no interest in working in hospitals in Kosovo, whereas 80% of doctors are unemployed because of the working conditions offered. The same worrying situation is with nurses, who are getting their diplomas and are leaving for migration abroad, for a job with better conditions.

The health system in Kosovo will soon face a serious crisis of medical staff; declare the Doctors Chamber (OMK) and the Association of Nurses in Kosovo (OIK). According to them, until now the requirements and conditions in which the medical staff works, have not been taken seriously.

The President of the Kosovo Doctors Chamber, Pleurat Sejdiu, told KosovaPress that the issue of doctors leaving in the last five years is increasing and that 8% of the doctors in Kosovo are leaving.

Also, Sejdiu said that the reason for the migration of doctors does not lie in salaries, according to him, unemployment and working conditions are in the first place. According to him, in the clinics in Kosovo, the greatest need lies in anesthesiologists and that due to the lack of doctors, many sectors had to be closed.

The President of the Chamber of Nurses in Kosovo, Nexhmije Gora, says that nursing in the country has a lot of dissatisfaction, starting from low salaries to non-payment of weekends. According to her, nursing is being studied only for migration abroad and not for employment.

Meanwhile, PDK MP, at the same time a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Bekim Haxhiu, described 2023 as the year of failure in the health sector. He says that the current government has not been able to manage the demands of health and that this situation cannot be improved.

According to him, visa liberalization will enable doctors and nurses to find work in European hospitals.
