Dozens of Serbian students and citizens participated in the “15 minutes of silence” gathering in front of the “Prince Lazarus” monument in northern Mitrovica on Wednesday, in memory of the 15 victims who died after the roof collapsed at the Novi Sad railway station in November last year.

The students held banners with inscriptions such as “Students from Belgrade with colleagues from Mitrovica”, “Mother with students”, “Who can learn while their conscience torments them” and other similiar banners.

Mirjana Perović, a student at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, justified the small turnout of students at this gathering by saying that they are extremely afraid.

“Our colleagues here are very scared. Half of them fear how they will get jobs tomorrow, if they come here, will their parents and friends manage to keep the salaries they receive, they are simply scared and I understand why they did not participate and did not come”, she said.
