The doubling of electricity tariffs proposed on Friday by the electricity supplier KESCO, in the request made to the Office of the Energy Regulator for an extraordinary review of the tariffs, is in the process of reviewing the application of the new tariffs. KESCO has justified the request with the non-disbursement of subsidies promised by the Government and with the increase in energy prices in international markets. However, the former Minister of Energy, Ethem Çeku, is against this proposal for increasing electricity tariffs, but the leaders of the Institute for Development Policy (INDEP) do not think this way. According to the university professor, the possible doubling of electricity tariffs is not a solution to the energy crisis. Ceku has asked the Government to take measures to raise the awareness of citizens in the efficient use of energy, as according to him there is abuse of electricity.
