On the World Suicide Prevention Day, the "Lifeline" organization has submitted to the Assembly of Kosovo, the petition for the draft law on suicide prevention with 13,361 signatures collected by the citizens of Kosovo.

According to the chairman of "Lifeline", Bind Skeja, this marks an extraordinary achievement in the treatment of suicide in Kosovo, starting for the first time the process of drafting policies, which according to him, their main concern is the reduction of suicides through the dignified treatment of citizens.

Since they were not received by the Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, this shows a non-serious approach for the organization.

Asked about suicide statistics in Kosovo, obtained by the Kosova Police, Skeja added that he does not consider the KP statistics reliable, because there are no mechanisms to monitor them.

Skeja has emphasized that there have been cases when people who died from overdose were not treated as suicide even though the intention was such.

Through this petition, "Lifeline" requests a law that regulates clinical suicide prevention services, the integration of suicide prevention into institutional objectives, non-clinical social services and support, mechanisms for reducing access to self-harming tools and other regulations. /A.
