The EU and Sweden donate forest protection equipment to Kosovo
To support the fight against illegal logging in Kosovo, the FAO forestry program, co-financed by the EU and Sweden, deonated various field equipment to the Kosovo Forestry Agency.
Six pick-up vehicles with built-in cameras
and GPS devices for forest inspections, GPS devices for field data collection,
trap cameras and night binoculars for detecting illegal forest activities were
handed over to the Agency in a ceremony organized at the hunting lodge with
special importance "Blinaja".
In the press release it is announced that
in his speech at this ceremony, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural
Development, Faton Peci, thanked the EU Office in Kosovo, the Swedish Embassy
in Pristina and FAO for the Agency's support Forestry of Kosovo in addressing
deficiencies in human and technical capacities to combat illegal activities in
forests.
The ambassador of Sweden in Kosovo, Jonas
Westerlund, has said that the protection of the environment, including the
management and protection of natural resources, should be the highest priority
of the Government.
