The elections in North Macedonia, Osmani: Tonight we will be able to continue the journey towards the EU
The candidate for president from the ranks of the European Front in North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, has stated that today not only the representative of the people will be elected, but the future of this country towards European integration will also be shaped.
While Osmani said that these elections are decisive for the future of the country, he encourages citizens to vote and exercise their right to vote.
He emphasized that "tonight it can be said that North Macedonia continues its journey towards the European Union and towards inter-ethnic coexistence in a multi-ethnic state".
When asked by journalists, whether the fact that none of the Albanian parties won in the first round of the elections held in April had an effect on the majority of Albanians not voting in both parties on the grounds that there is no Albanian candidate, he has said that it is their right to determine what they want. Meanwhile, he added that there is no appeal from BDI (Democratic Union for Integration) in this direction.
Double elections are held today in North Macedonia. For the presidential elections, 1,814,317 voters were registered, while for the parliamentary elections, this number is 1,815,350 voters.
The difference in the number of voters is 1033 and this is due to voters who have turned 18 years old. Polling stations opened at 07:00 and will close at 19:00. In these elections, there will be over 2000 local and foreign observers and about 80 foreign journalists.
During yesterday, the sick and the infirm voted, whose requests were accepted by the municipal election commissions. The diaspora also voted, but only for the presidential elections, since the necessary number of requests for the organization of the elections was not filled for the parliamentary ones.
In the second round of the presidential elections, two candidates will be voted on, while in the parliamentary elections, 17 lists of MPs will be voted on.
