The Kosovo Customs has reacted after the arrest of two people today in Ferizaj on suspicion of spying for the Serbian BIA, saying that the person Bedri Shabani was fired from his position at the customs 20 years ago, specifically at the beginning of 2004.

His dismissal was due to violations of the Kosovo Customs Code of Conduct, related to unauthorized communications with mass media. Since his dismissal, the person in question has had no connection with the Kosovo Customs, it is stated in the clarification.

Kosovo Customs commends Kosovo law enforcement authorities for their efforts in addressing security-related issues.

The Specialist Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo announces that after several months of investigations, today in cooperation with the Kosovo Police and the KIA, it conducted raids in two locations in Kosovo and arrested two persons with Kosovar citizenship, suspected of committing the criminal offense of espionage.

Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi are the persons arrested today on suspicion of spying for the Serbian intelligence agency BIA.

KosovaPress learns that their arrest was made possible after the discovery by the Kosovar Intelligence Agency.

The prosecutor's office issued a 48-hour detention order against the suspects and will take all the necessary investigative actions against them.

The police continued to raid the properties of the two suspects, who are suspected of having cooperated with Serbian intelligence structures for many years.

One of the arrested, Bedri Shabani, was a customs officer during the years 90-99, until after the war he continued to exercise the function of a customs officer during the period of UNMIK administration in Kosovo.
