Snap elections in Kosovo are anticipated by political analysts because of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority. According to them, the establishment or rejection of the Association is a heavy burden for the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, therefore snap elections in the country can be expected at the beginning of 2024.

The political analyst, Artan Muhaxhiri, tells KosovaPress that the Association is expected to be the trigger for new elections in Kosovo next year.

According to him, Prime Minister Albin Kurti is in a very unenviable position for any action he takes for the Association.

He emphasizes that the only alternative to not establishing the Association is the isolation of Kosovo, therefore, based on the new circumstances, there should be a political re-legitimization in the country.

On the other hand, the expert of the political circumstances, Dritëro Arifi, sees the new elections in Kosovo as possible.

He says for KosovaPress, that Kurti has delegitimized himself with the acceptance of the Association and with its establishment in practice, he should turn to the sovereign for new legitimacy.

Kurti has recently offered the opportunity to write a modern European draft of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities next year.

Responding to the special envoy of the European Union (EU) for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, who stated this week that the draft statute of the Association is an internal matter for Kosovo, Kurti said that he can write a draft - statute in cooperation with ministers Nenad Rashiq and Elbert Krasniqi.

In October of this year, Kurti accepted the plan from the Euro-Americans for the implementation of the Kosovo-Serbia basic agreement as well as the draft statute of the Association, but requested their signature as a guarantee for implementation.

The Kurti government was elected to the Assembly in March 2021, while it has a mandate until March 2025.
