With 20 votes in favor and 10 abstentions, the selection of the independent candidate, Fehmi Kupina for the head of the Assembly of Prishtina in the first round failed.

For this position, Kupina was proposed by the representative of the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), Gëzim Mehmeti.

In the extraordinary meeting called by the Vetëvendosje Movement for the appointment of the chairman of the capital assembly, 21 assembly members are absent, including the Democratic League of Kosovo, which requested that this session be postponed for 30 minutes. This caused debate among the assembly members, but the process continued.

The initiator of the extraordinary session from the VV, Gëzim Sveçla, in a statement to the media, said that this created situation has never happened in Kosovo since 1999, according to him, when the elected citizens were prevented from holding a session.

He emphasized that mayor Përparim Rama and the LDK with these actions are running away from accountability and from the daily scandals that the citizens of Kosovo are facing.

Sveçla expressed his conviction that the chairman of the Prishtina assembly will be elected today.

The representative of AKR, Gëzim Mehemeti, invited the assemblymen of all parties to support and vote the proposal for the election of Fehmi Kupina, chairman of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina.
