A resolution of the Swiss Parliament, signed by 30 members of this parliament, was submitted today to the Special Court, calling for justice for the former KLA leaders, KosovaPress reports.
The Swiss MPs who signed this resolution are calling for justice and equality. Through this resolution, they demand a fair, impartial, and equal court.
“This is also a call from the Swiss parliamentarians on behalf of the NGO Every Westerner in Kosovo, as we have requested a fair, impartial, and equal trial. In reality, this court has not fulfilled any of these. We are also here to protest, because it is very difficult for such a prosecution to commit a scandal by requesting 45 years in prison; this is also an offense to international justice, to The Hague itself, to this court. We cannot remain silent, and we are here to assert ourselves, our contribution, our history, which must not be tarnished at any cost… Freedom is coming, the president is in Kosovo,” he said.
“I see this trial, or the Specialist Chambers, as unnecessary, and this ongoing trial is fabricating or falsifying cases with paid or infiltrated individuals. Otherwise, I can say that those who cooperated with Serbia have now come to testify here, trying to tarnish the KLA’s fight, which I do not believe they will succeed in doing because the war was sacred, the war was for the people, and the people supported it. We fought to liberate our country from the Serbian paramilitary gangs… The defense was very strong, it was fair, it struck down every accusation in the air, and every point of their indictment has been rejected with strong arguments and international witnesses in defense of Hashim Thaçi and the others. I believe the defense has dismissed all charges, and we hope to celebrate their release in May,” he said.
On February 9, the presentation of closing statements began in the case of the former KLA leaders at the Specialist Chambers.
They stated before the judicial panel that there is no evidence supporting the SPO’s allegations of war crimes.
Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi are facing charges brought by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, which they have described as unfounded. The defense has also rejected these charges, arguing that the KLA did not have an organized command structure.
The trial against them began on April 3, 2023 – nearly three years after the indictment was confirmed, during which the former KLA leaders have been held at the detention center in The Hague.
