Suspect in Podujevë detained for animal smuggling from Serbia

A case of animal smuggling was uncovered yesterday by the Kosovo Police in the village of Dumnicë, Podujevë. According to the Kosovo Police, a suspect was attempting to cross the border illegally while transporting 21 sheep in a cart, KosovaPress reports.

The report states that when the police patrol noticed him, the suspect tried to flee via a mountain path, but the animals were seized and sent to the customs terminal for further procedures.

“Village Dumnicë, Podujevë, 09.12.2025 – 16:00. It was reported that a suspect was smuggling several animals. When the suspect saw the police, he attempted to escape through a mountain path. In the cart were 21 animals (sheep) which were sent to the customs terminal for further procedures,” the Kosovo Police 24-hour report stated.

The report adds that the person later presented himself at the police station, and after the case was initiated, he was released by a prosecutor’s decision. Proceedings against him will continue according to the regular procedure.
