Danish politician Peter Sorensen, who was selected by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to replace Miroslav Lajcak in this position as of tomorrow, will take up his mandate on February 1.
Sorensen has been definitively confirmed as the envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue by the European Union Foreign Ministers.
Until now, this position has been held by the envoy Miroslav Lajcak, who a few days ago during his stay in Davos had confirmed that this is his last week.
Lajcak also said that the dialogue is more crucial than ever in today's world.
“Dialogue is more crucial than ever in today’s world. I also met with leaders from the Balkans and participated in the traditional Diplomacy Dialogue for the region. In my intervention, I stressed that the EU is serious about enlarging the Union, but this will not happen by default and I urged the region to stay the course. As I begin the last week of my almost five years in my current role, the coming days will focus on final briefings and handover procedures,” Lajcak wrote.
