Qelaj for the Civil Code: Public declarations are unacceptable
Ombudsman, Naim Qelaj considers that the public discourse regarding the Civil Code is disturbing. According to him, public statements contain hate speech, are unacceptable and create extreme polarization. This is what he declares for KosovaPress, where he also talks about the Law on Elections and the boycott of Serbs in the north of the country for the population census process.
Qelaj says that the boycott of Serbs in the population census is a mistake.
Qelaj also talks about the Civil Code and the impossibility of bringing it to the assembly for approval. According to him, the current formulation in the Civil Code for the legal resolution of same-sex marriage procedures is not formulated in accordance with the Constitution.
He considers the language used unacceptable, where he says it creates extreme polarization.
Regarding the Law on Elections, which he sent to the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman did not respond to the statements of the current government. He says that after the approval in the Assembly of Kosovo, they understood how it went through accelerated procedures and without public discussion.
Qelaj says that the only solution was to seek interpretation from the Constitution.
