The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports (MCYS) and the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (OCK) have signed a cooperation memorandum today, worth over €2.6 million for the organization of the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030,” as reported by KosovaPress.
Acting Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Daulina Osmani, said that a solution has now been found for organizing the Mediterranean Games, since the law on these games is still under review by the Constitutional Court.
“We have addressed the challenge created by sending the Law on the Mediterranean Games to the Constitutional Court, which has blocked us since the end of last year. Unfortunately, this law is still under review by the Constitutional Court. This legal situation has slowed down the organization process, focusing on the establishment of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030.’ Thanks to close cooperation with the ICMG, we have managed to find an alternative path while fully respecting the existing legal framework. In accordance with the legal framework and the commitments we made through the contract and the candidature book, which gave us the right to organize the games, we have agreed that within the Olympic Committee, as the key sports organization in the country, a temporary or transitional structure of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games will be established. This committee will have full responsibility for the operational implementation of the organization of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030,’” she said.
Expressing the Kosovo government’s commitment to this project, Osmani said that the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports will support the OCK this year with over €2.6 million for organizing the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030.”President of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, Ismet Krasniqi, announced that this organizing committee will meet next week for the first time.“This funding also covers the formation of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games, led by the OCK together with partners—the Government of Kosovo, the MCYS, and the Municipality of Prishtina. Next week, the organizing committee will hold its first board meeting, where it will discuss future arrangements to ensure we are as quick and concrete as possible in organizing the Mediterranean Games. I believe we will succeed with positive energy,” Krasniqi said.
