Both members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), who since last night have been monitoring the process at the counting center in Mitrovica, have said that the integrity of the elections has been compromised. After PDK submits its complaint, they will await the decision of the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP).

Arianit Elshani – member of the CEC from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, told the media in Mitrovica that after receiving information that ballot papers were found moved from one classroom to another and from one school to another, they came during the night, and what they saw was very concerning.

“Today you saw a press conference, and a complaint will be submitted to the ECAP, after which the procedure will continue in other institutions, depending on the ECAP’s decision. We consider that, in the eyes of the citizens, this process has been damaged — the integrity of the elections has been compromised — and we are waiting for a decision from the ECAP after the complaint is submitted. What happened here, what we saw — from one classroom to another, and from one school to another — completely harms the voting process in the municipality of Mitrovica,” he said.

He also commented on the prosecution’s decision to restart the recount.

“We have not officially received that communication, and once we do, all PDK bodies will review it and take further steps — whether to participate in the counting team at the Municipal Counting Center. What we know is that yesterday the counting teams left the MCC because they did not want to sign the form and did not want to legitimize a process they doubted. Everyone doubts what we have seen through the video recordings,” he said.

As for the statements by the former mayor of Skenderaj, Fadil Nura, that both PDK members in the CEC should be dismissed, Elshani said that this is a matter for the party’s internal bodies.

The interrupted counting process is set to resume today at 16:00.
