The expert on Balkan affairs, Anton Panqev, has assessed the situation in Serbia after the recent elections and the opposition protests there, which he said will die down because, according to him, Serbian President, Aleksander Vucic, has absolute power over the security institutions.

The Bulgarian analyst in an interview for KosovaPress said that the opposition does not have enough strength to overthrow Vucic due to popular support, despite the fact that his policy is not bringing economic and social benefits to the Serbian state.

Panqev emphasized that the majority of Serbs are supporting a semi-authoritarian regime, which is repressive towards minorities as well as very aggressive in the Western Balkans, and that the only possibility to remove Vucic from power is pressure from the USA or the EU, imposing sanctions on Serbia.

The Bulgarian analyst also spoke about the statements of the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Bernabic, who stated a few days ago that the Russian security service "provided information" about possible incidents in the protests in Belgrade.

Panqev said that this statement is part of Russian propaganda which blames the United States of America and some countries of the European Union for interfering in the internal affairs of small states in order to control power.

He added that these claims belong to Russian propaganda which blames the West for organizing protests in Moldova, Georgia and Armenia with the aim of separating these countries from Russia's influence.

The Serbian opposition has accused the current government in Serbia of involving hooligans in the protests where the December 17 elections are opposed.

KosovaPress, on Monday, based on its own sources, reported yesterday that the Serbian president, Aleksander Vucic, also engaged members of the Banjska terrorist group, to cause riots in the opposition protests in Serbia.
