Five people with tuberculosis have been hospitalized and are being treated at the Pulmonology Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK). 241 patients sought treatment for this disease last year. Thus, marking an increase in those affected compared to 2023. Although there are no official statistics, the Pulmonology Clinic at UCCK says that around 600 patients throughout Kosovo have been registered with tuberculosis.

The Director of Pulmonology, Musa Hoxha, in an interview for KosovaPress, says that the rate of infections is around 30 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in our country.

"During 2024, around 241 cases were diagnosed and treated in our clinic. Of those, there were 206 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. 11 cases were of latent tuberculosis and 9 were relapses, while, there were 35 extrapulmonary tuberculosis. During 2023, around 208 cases were diagnosed and treated in our clinic... There are still no official data at the national level. However, based on a calculation we have made, it can be seen that the number of new cases is around 600, just like last year. With an incidence of around 30 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants...", says Hoxha.

Hoxha says that, compared to neighboring countries, the frequency of tuberculosis cases is much higher in Kosovo.
