With the intonation of the state and national anthem and a minute of silence for all those who fell for the freedom of Kosovo, the solemn session of the Assembly of Kosovo has started, in honor of the 25th anniversary of liberation from the Serbian occupying forces, where participants were also important regional and international personalities and figures.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that on June 12, 1999, NATO forces brought a light of hope to Kosovo, saving the people from the annihilation aimed at by the Serbian regime of Milosevic.

She underlined that NATO in 1999 provided decisive support for Kosovo's freedom, therefore today, 25 years after liberation, Kosovo aims for and deserves full membership in this military alliance.

Osmani mentioned, as he said, the resistance of former president Ibrahim Rugova, the heroism of the legendary commander Adem Jashari and all the martyrs of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who became cornerstones of Kosovo's freedom.

President Osmani also emphasized the partnership and alliances with Kosovo's friendly countries, which she said should be maintained and not taken for granted.

Kosovo marks the day of liberation, where 50 thousand NATO soldiers were deployed 25 years ago, and with them the temporary administration of the United Nations. And during all these years, our institutions have not made it official as an official state holiday.
