The Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, has called on opposition parties not to pressure presidential candidate Feride Rushiti to withdraw from the race.

She invited opposition lawmakers to attend the presidential session, which began moments ago, saying they would be given the floor to present any of their claims.

According to her, MPs are obliged to exercise their mandate in the best interest of Kosovo.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Democratic Party of Kosovo called on Rushiti to withdraw her candidacy.

“Deputies are obliged to exercise their mandate in the best interest of Kosovo. Allow me once again to invite the deputies and urge them to be present at this session, where the election of the president is on the agenda. Instead of making statements that pressure candidates to withdraw from a race that is fully in line with the Constitution, I invite them to come to the session. If they request the floor, we will give it to them, but they should not speak from their offices or other places while the session is taking place. This is the place where we speak politically and legally,” she said.

Haxhiu continues to call the names of each opposition MP to attend the session.
