No step has been taken for compulsory military service
The party that is now in power had promised compulsory military service. Such a thing has not been foreseen with this year's budget allocation and it is not known if it is planned to be implemented by the government. Security experts estimate that the application of compulsory military service has high financial costs and requires deep analysis. Also, they emphasize that this cannot be done before the completion of the transition plan.
Recently, the former Minister of Defense, Armend Mehaj, said that the idea of mandatory military service in Kosovo is not accepted by the partner states in Kosovo.
KosovaPress has asked the Ministry of Defense about this issue, but they have not responded.
The director of the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS), Mentor Vrajolli, declares for KosovaPress that until now there have only been discussions, but not anything concrete regarding this promise.
He emphasizes that this helps to have sufficient resources in cases where national security is endangered.
Kosovo must ensure that it talks about a military service completely different from that in Serbia, says Vrajolli, as he talks about the latter's warnings.
Security expert Nuredin Ibishi considers that such a thing can be realized at a later stage, but not now.
In recent days, Serbia has announced the return of the obligation to serve in the army for up to four months.
The Albanian MP in the Parliament of Serbia, Shaip Kamberi, reacted by saying that such a thing is unacceptable and should be rejected.
