The head of the parliamentary group of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Arbërie Nagavci, has criticized opposition parties, saying they are using the election of the president as a tool for blockade.

Referring to the work of the late academic Rexhep Qosja, who passed away on Thursday, she said the opposition is avoiding the presidential election for partisan reasons.

“Rexhep Qosja will remain eternally relevant, because he did not only criticize his own time, but a way of doing politics that unfortunately continues to appear today. That is, the avoidance of decision-making, the relativization of responsibility, the replacement of stance with calculation. Here we are, facing the mirror left to us by Professor Qosja. The election of the president is a process of our political clarity. It is not only a function, but a symbol of how we understand the state and unity. In this process, the differences are clear. There are those who treat it as an institutional obligation and those who use it as a means of blockade. If we were to follow Rexhep Qosja’s logic, there would not be much confusion. When decisions are postponed for partisan reasons, responsibility is being avoided. As a majority, we are clear in our position. This process must be concluded, because the state cannot and should not be kept on hold. The president must emerge from a regular process and represent the unity of the Republic. But unity is not built by not participating and blocking, but by deciding. The state does not wait, it demands decisions,” she said.

The Assembly of Kosovo has a constitutional deadline until April 28 to elect the president, otherwise the country goes to elections.
