The Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure (MMPHI), in cooperation with the universities of the Republic of Kosovo and civil society organizations, has started marking the European Mobility Week under the global motto “Mobility for All.”

As part of this activity, solar-powered eco-benches have been installed in several public locations, including the premises of the "Rilindja" building in Pristina. The head of the division for sustainable development projects, Besmir Kokollari, said that these benches will serve for rest, but also to charge electronic devices with clean solar energy.

“MMPHI, in cooperation with the universities of the Republic of Kosovo, civil society organizations, and bicycle enthusiasts, has started celebrating European Mobility Week under the global motto ‘Mobility for All.’ Following the proposals of the organizing council, we chose to bring several solar-powered eco-benches. Today we are installing a solar-powered eco-bench with clean solar energy in the premises of the Rilindja building. Considering that we have a large number of visitors as well as officials who can use it for rest, it can also charge laptops during their workshops or phones with clean solar energy or solar power,” said Kokollari.

As part of activities for sustainable development, MMPHI has planted around 115 saplings in the premises of the University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina,” as well as in the university campus and the rectorate building. Saplings have also been planted in primary and lower secondary schools in Pristina, as well as in other universities in the country.

“As part of ongoing activities, MMPHI is working strongly for environmental sustainable development, as well as for creating green spaces, among the planting of saplings. We have planted around 115 saplings at the University of Pristina ‘Hasan Prishtina,’ in the campus areas and the rectorate. We continued planting in primary and lower secondary schools, Dituria Shkabaj in the municipality of Pristina, and we are active in other municipalities at the University of Prizren. We will also donate a solar-powered eco-bench, and with the University of Gjilan we will donate a solar-powered eco-bench as well. All these activities are done to improve the environmental situation in the Republic of Kosovo, create green spaces, and a cleaner environment for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,” said Besmir Kokollari.

European Mobility Week is celebrated every year from 16 to 22 September in many European countries, aiming to promote sustainable transport methods and reduce dependence on cars. The Republic of Kosovo, through its relevant institutions, has joined this international initiative by organizing awareness activities, investing in green infrastructure, and promoting the use of clean energy.
