At the meeting of the Government of Kosovo, Kurti emphasized that the request which is being postponed as a condition for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, according to him, is not only not principled and valuable, but it has already been rejected three times by the Council of Europe itself.
Kurti calls absurd the request of France and Germany that the draft statute of the European Union for the Association be sent for evaluation to the Constitutional Court, as a condition for membership in the Council of Europe.
He said that it was not expected that democratic states, which have been and continue to be supporters of our state for development and democratization, would become an obstacle to Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
Kurti emphasized that the established conditions have nothing to do with the standards of membership in this organization.Meanwhile, Germany and France said on Monday that the proceeding of the draft statute of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities for interpretation in the Constitutional Court would be a sufficient signal to ensure support in the final decision-making of the Council of Europe this month.
While the most powerful country within the CoE, Great Britain, has offered Kosovo support without additional conditions for membership in this organization. The next meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the CoE will take place on May 16-17, where it will be finally decided whether Kosovo will become a member of the Council of Europe.
